What can you achieve in 1,5 week? A lot apparently. That is all the time I had for this project. During the UX Bootcamp or Ironhack, I was challenged to create a digital solution for an existing problem. Did I get a lot of sleep in that period? No. But was it fun? Hell yeah!
Since Covid-19 a lot has changed in the foodservice industry. Less tables, more distance, and the requirement of making more often a reservation. I wanted to find out how guests are dealing with this new situation, with the aim of solving potential problems with a digital solution.
So.. let’s go!
To understand the problem I conducted 7 interviews and received 18 completed surveys. Based on my research I made a Affinity Diagram to map out potential problems to solve.
" I don’t know when I need to make a reservation since Corona. ”
" I prefer to go spontaneous to a place instead of booking days ahead. ”
59%
of the respondents go less often and/or spend less money at restaurants and bars since the outbreak of Covid-19, because a visit is not that spontaneous anymore.
56%
of the respondents would attend more to restaurants and bars if they had a real time overview of the number of tables left at a place.
Based on user research, I created User Persona Rosa.
1.
The Covid-19 rules of each restaurant or bar are not clear to her. When does she need to make a reservation?
2.
Since the outbreak of Covid-19, visits to bars and restaurants need to be more planned. She wants spontaneously decide where to go to.
During this project I have learned to make essential choices due to the short amount of time I had to finish the project. When I started, I also planned to do research and create a digital solution for the restaurant owner. However, this is something which I skipped due to the lack of time. I prefer to complete one thing to the standard I am used to over compromising quality for quantity.
